"Clearly then, we note from this biblical authority that if God had NOT intended for two separate classes of humans to exist, one male and one female, having separate and distinct functions and roles to perform, no females would have been cloned." - John Garrison.
Interesting, because I thought the Bible simply stated "It is not good for man to be alone, we shall make an ezer neged" (Gen 2:18). Ezer neged, often translated "a help mate suitable for him," really means "a helper for him." The term ezer, helper, appears numerous other times in the Old Testament-all of which are describing God. Clearly gender heirarchy is not intended by this statement. Second, "neged," or "for him," is often used to debate that woman is compatible with man. She is "different but equal" in every characteristic. However, the term carries no such weight. Rather, it is DIRECTIONAL in almost every other usage in the text. The word simply means "before him" or "for him." Also, theoretically it can mean "from him" or "from the front of him." In this way, God may just be saying "Let's make another being for this being!" or "let's make another being out of this being!"
What is therefore known of the differences between men and women is thus anachronistically applied to the text, using the Bible as an explanation for what we call "socially constructed gender differences."
That is all.
